2020 High School Senior Spotlight: Wayland Moody
This past February at the 19th Annual Brazos Valley African American Museum Appreciation Banquet, one of the biggest highlights of the evening was when Wayland Moody was presented with more than $3,000 of combined scholarships after his numerous achievements and honors were read off. The audience of nearly 1,000 rose to their feet to give Wayland a standing ovation, and when he took to the stage to accept the scholarships, his humble and graceful words served as inspiration to all, myself included. It was clear that Wayland was special, a dedicated achiever with positive-driven purpose who already had impressively exhibited traits and a mindset to do and be the best in his pursuit of education, service, and being a good citizen with sense of integrity and hard work ethic.
Wayland is a senior at Bryan High School’s Class of 2020, caring, hard working, dedicated, and goal oriented young man. He is graduating 8th in his class wiith a GPA of 5.2, and is a candidate for the International Baccalaureate Diploma. He is the vice president of the National Honor Society, a member of Student Council, and Vikings Against Tobacco (VKOT). He has been a proud member of the Viking Band for 4 years, where he’s received numerous awards as a talented trumpet player, and holds the title as 2019-2020 Outstanding Marcher. His time as an athlete has also been a highlight of his high school years. Wayland participated in football, powerlifting, and track. While on the Viking Track Team, he was 2019 Most Outstanding Hurdler. He had the honors of attending Texas Boys State and participated in Junior Leadership Brazos.
Wayland enjoyed all the experiences of giving back to his community during his years at Bryan High. When not at school, he enjoys spending time with family, playing video games with his friends, and volunteering in the Children’s Ministry at his church. Wayland will be attending Texas A&M University majoring in Computer Engineering.
Wayland has already accomplished more at his age than some people do in a lifetime. A role model and inspiration for all, his future is bright and promising, sure to go on to even higher heights in his educational, service-orientated, and growth endeavors. His spiritual-based good character, compassion, and social awareness fuel the drive within him to shine bright, all testaments to the strong upbringing and foundation set by his parents, Jerry Wayland Moody Sr and Latisha Moody, who could be more proud of their son for all he has achieved. Wayland is a rising star, a young man full of promise and potential who represents the best of the best in 2020 and beyond.
Congratulations Wayland, and may God continue to guide and power you to reach all your goals.
