Blue Genie Art Bazaar Launches May Market, New Spring Shopping Event

Market will feature local artists and a majority of women-owned businesses

(AUSTIN, TX) — The creators of Blue Genie Art Bazaar (BGAB) present the May Market, a new spring art and shopping experience that, much like its award-winning, annual holiday event, brings the best of Central Texas artists and their work to the Greater Austin community under one expansive roof. The new event will take place at 6100 Airport Boulevard, Austin TX, 78752 every Friday – Sunday, April 30 – May 31, 2021, from 10 a.m – 8 p.m with a bonus shopping day on Memorial Day. The majority of the 100+ exhibitors are women artists or women-owned businesses. The May Market is an exciting new destination for one-of-a-kind gifts for spring milestones such as Mother’s Day, Father’s Day, graduations, anniversaries, weddings and more.

For 20 years the Blue Genie Art Bazaar has showcased local and regional artisans, beginning as a small, eclectic East Austin pop-up and growing into an annual holiday shopping event with more than 200 exhibitors. When the ongoing pandemic restrictions caused many other spring markets and arts events to cancel in 2021, BGAB saw an opportunity to create something new and expand their long-standing mission of supporting local artists. Organizers hope that the May Market can become another annual arts tradition in the community.

“Like so many businesses, COVID forced us to innovate and host the 2020 Bazaar on a range of online platforms while also adjusting our in-store experience, ” says founder Dana Younger. “By drawing upon what we learned about conducting a safe and successful event over the holidays, we believe the May Market is a natural step for us and a chance to support artisans who have struggled to exhibit and sell during the pandemic.”

Like the holiday Bazaar, the new event is a free, family-friendly experience showcasing hand-made items including jewelry, home decor, clothing, pottery, and fine art under one roof with centralized checkout. While many of the customer favorites from past Bazaars will participate in the May Market, there will also be a new crop of local artists for shoppers to discover.

The May Market will follow local and CDC recommendations regarding social distancing and mask wearing. Check the Blue Genie Art Bazaar’s website and social channels to stay up to date with latest information this spring.

The Blue Genie Art Bazaar (BGAB) is a unique holiday art show held in Austin, Texas, every year during the weeks leading up to Christmas Eve. Founded in 2001 by the principals of Blue Genie Art Industries — Chris Coakley, Kevin Collins, Rory Skagen, and Dana Younger — the Bazaar has grown from a small event with approximately 15 participants, to a fixture of the holiday season featuring more than 200 regional exhibitors and thousands of original artworks and handmade gifts. In 2021, BGAB introduced their first annual spring shopping and art event, the May Market.
